	MISSION
101PS is on a mission to build a global network of artists, designers and free minds. It is a non–profit institution with a focus on exchange, research, inspiration and education. It is an extension of what an artistic exchange for contemporary art can be by taking advantage of the freedom that comes with running an independent practice. 
101 PS aims to promote new and investigative approaches – to cross boundaries between different creative disciplines, cultural identities, geographical locations, political economies, crafts and new technologies. By emphasizing open dialogues, it aims to encourage experimentation, collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange within the workgroup but also to the audience.&#38;nbsp;

The exhibition program is therefore not guided by a singular curatorial line, but represents a diverse constellation of artistic interests. It’s structure is based on self-organization and the equal participation of all people involved.

TEAM
Since 2015 Hannah Kuhlmann has been initiating new working groups with different guest–curators again and again, 101PS summarised her curatorical work together under one name. 
For each exhibition, an exchange between international and local artists will be established and annual exhibitions will be initiated to promote communication and networking among the participants.
Eva Herrmann is mostly involved trough constant exchange about life, ongoing and upcoming projects, as a spririt animal and good friend. We expand our perspectives constantly in mutual thought exchange and experiments. 
 Further 101PS is the descendants of PILOT, a test project space initiated by Eva Herrmann and Hannah Kuhlmann – 2016.

	*APOPHORETA ARE FESTIVE GIFTS THAT WERE RAFFLED OR DISTRIBUTED ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN ROMAN HOUSEHOLDS.MARTIAL WROTE HIS APOPHORETA IN VIEW OF THE SATURNALIA, THE MAIN OCCASION FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF SUCH GIFTS. NOT ONLY AT THE BANQUET OF TRIMALCHIO OF PETRON BUT ALSO OUTSIDE THE SATURNALIA FESTIVAL SUCH GIFTS WERE RAFFLED OFF.
THE STYLISH AWARDING OF THE GIFTS APPARENTLY INCLUDED THAT THEY WERE ANNOUNCED BY A SHORT ORIGINAL POEM (IN MARTIAL'S CASE A TWO-LINER). MARTIAL DISTINGUISHES BETWEEN GIFTS FOR THE RICH AND FOR THE POOR, WHICH ARE OFTEN PRESENTED ALTERNATELY IN THE APOPHORETA. IN THEIR QUALITY AND VALUE THEY CAN DIFFER CONSIDERABLY. FOR EXAMPLE, MARTIAL POEMS BOTH TO A GOLDEN DECORATED DRINKING BOWL AND TO DRINKING UTENSILS MADE OF CLAY.

	APOPHORETA ‘23*Apophoreta are festive gifts that were raffled or distributed on special occasions in Roman households. 

Martial wrote his Apophoreta in view of the Saturnalia, the main occasion for the distribution of such gifts. Not only at the banquet of Trimalchio of Petron but also outside the Saturnalia festival such gifts were raffled off. 


The stylish awarding of the gifts apparently included that they were announced by a short original poem (in Martial's case a two-liner). Martial distinguishes between gifts for the rich and for the poor, which are often presented alternately in the Apophoreta. In their quality and value they can differ considerably. For example, Martial poems both to a golden decorated drinking bowl and to drinking utensils made of clay. As a homeage to this ancient custom, we are hosting a waiting room full of present available for purchase off– and online!

EVA&#38;nbsp;HERRMANN is an independent researcher and cultural programmer based in Berlin. In her curatorial practice, she is concerned with the role art can play in processes of social transformation and what impulses it can give for the imagination and implementation of future scenarios. After finishing her BA in Integrated Design at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, she worked in a gallery for contemporary art in Berlin. She is currently enrolled in the MA for Future Studies with a focus on sociology and art at Freie Universität Berlin.

HANNAH KUHLMANNis an interdisciplinary designer and curator with a focus on collectible design. Every year she&#38;nbsp;initiates, an exhibition series at IMM/Passagen that deals with the artistic diversity of interior design concepts and spatial design in everyday life. On any occasion, a temporary collective of local and international artists is created to discuss a specific sociological topic in a multidisciplinary way. She studied product design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design Maastricht and founded her own design studio „Studio Kuhlmann“ in Cologne in 2017. For her exhibition „Homo Ludens“ she received the PASSAGEN Prize 2018 together with Jana Manfroid.

	CURRENT: APOPHORETA ‘2315. – 17.12.2023Apophoreta are festive gifts that were raffled or distributed on special occasions in Roman households. 

Martial wrote his Apophoreta in view of the Saturnalia, the main occasion for the distribution of such gifts. Not only at the banquet of Trimalchio of Petron but also outside the Saturnalia festival such gifts were raffled off. 


The stylish awarding of the gifts apparently included that they were announced by a short original poem (in Martial's case a two-liner). Martial distinguishes between gifts for the rich and for the poor, which are often presented alternately in the Apophoreta. In their quality and value they can differ considerably. For example, Martial poems both to a golden decorated drinking bowl and to drinking utensils made of clay. As a homeage to this ancient custom, we are hosting a waiting room full of present available for purchase off– and online! TOGETHER WITH:&#38;nbsp;

Last year I was taking the subway over Mülheim Bridge.Unlike other mornings, the sun glittered over an unknown river,with trees rising straight out of the water, and birds winging softly through a golden fog.
It felt like another world;and momentarily I forgot that I was on my way to Reichensperger Platz.

					
Transitions or the Dawn of Men is a feeling turned installation triggered by the high tide ofthe Rhine river. As we see crisis upon crisis shape and fuel our burning twenty twenties, is our
normality becoming an augmented reality? We feel the natural and synthetic forces at work, as
the border between virtual and physical rapidly blur. And in this light, as our worldy paradigms
melt and burn and shift, may we fantasize of virtual salvations? Of synthetic simulations, hybrid
dreams and other exit strategies? Transitions or the Dawn of Men is such a liminal zone. An in
between. A threshhold, charged with the alluring energy of what might wait on the other side.

					
I slowly shift into another hemisphere, unimagined and almost imperceptible.
Like a new dream that rises from under my skin.

The better version of ourselves is born with storytelling. May it be in a job interview, our instagram feed or an artist statement. The image we present to others evokes trust. Trust in us, trust in our assets. And with their rise, also our stock price is growing. So we build our narratives to be ready for a stand up elevator pitch. Of course, the most promising story wins. And the winner goes home with the money.
Ursula Le Guin describes in ‚The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction‘, how the first tool of humans wasn’t a spear but must have been a bag or some form of container. Nutrition was covered by seeds and other foods that could be collected, which they needed a storage for - the container. But what everyone remembers and what made it into art was the glorious stories of the hunters with their spears. The heros and heroines of the party after a long day. Not that the meat was needed to cover nutritional needs, no, it was just the better story.Todays act of storifying ourselves was recently given the name ‚Lorecore‘ by Shumon Basar, who describes this phenomenon as one of late capita- lism. A stage in where we are all characters.
The commodification of self and self-branding though has always existed. It is part of communication within a society. According to what surrounds us and what is seen as worthy, you present what you have. The commodi- fication of self was there, the hunters and their stories were there, Lorecore was there. Just in another dress. The process didn’t really change much since the Middle Ages for example, there are just more social rights now thankfully, and more words. Thus, more options to define ourselves. The realm of language is expanding with every neologism, until it allows infinite identifications.
We learned a lot from social media about us and the image of ourselves. We are aware that we do storytelling. The stock market is thriving, cras- hing, thriving, crashing. The question is what drives the story in the end, what values make the story a good story?

	APOPHORETA

Apophoreta are festive gifts that were raffled or distributed on special occasions in Roman households. 


Martial wrote his Apophoreta in view of the Saturnalia, the main occasion for the distribution of such gifts. Not only at the banquet of Trimalchio of Petron but also outside the Saturnalia festival such gifts were raffled off.&#38;nbsp;


The stylish awarding of the gifts apparently included that they were announced by a short original poem (in Martial's case a two-liner). Martial distinguishes between gifts for the rich and for the poor, which are often presented alternately in the Apophoreta. In their quality and value they can differ considerably. For example, Martial poems both to a golden decorated drinking bowl and to drinking utensils made of clay.&#38;nbsp;As a homeage to this ancient custom, we are hosting a waiting room full of present available for purchase off– and online!&#38;nbsp;

	MANY–TO–MANY
12. – 22.5.2022&#38;nbsp;Many-to-Many is a group of 9 female designers, Anne-Sophie Oberkrome, Clara Schweers, Delphine Lejeune, Hannah Kuhlmann, Jenna Kaes, Juliana Maurer, Kurina Sohn, Lisa Ertel &#38;amp; Tatjana Stürmer.The collective of 9 female designers hold a residency as part of the exhibition “EAST to WEST” at Schloss Hollenegg.&#38;nbsp;Each of them have a different background within their own practice, a different approach in their own story but in a way, they all share similar interests.&#38;nbsp;As a collective, they aim to explore new approaches for an interdisciplinary exchange and a symbiotic design process. Many–to–Many's approach is to give space to female realities and to facilitate moments of collective dreaming that broaden our imagination and will lead us into alternative futures.

	BLOW SHOP

The second edition of BLOW SHOP will take place at Cologne's Off-Space 101PS from 22 to 24 April. 
BLOW SHOP is an independent, self-initiated stage that focuses on the presentation of collectible design by local designers. Limited edition objects and products whose functionality gives way to their aesthetics. The exhibited objects are priced and can be purchased during opening hours. The jointly organised format stems from the idea of creating a place for networking and positioning up-and-coming designers.
After the first edition in Düsseldorf in December 2021, the second BLOW SHOP will gather an extended list of participants from various disciplines ranging from fashion to jewellery to object design.

group as part of the project space 101PS.

					
In order to escape the digital, and enter the physical world – they form a dialogue
between residents and environment, between everyday life and mysticism, between
then and now. After their 10-day workshop at the foot of Calmont, they now present their new works in a double show at GOLD+BETON and Mouches Volantes.
